Each image is saved at the best quality that fits, made smaller only if it has to be. PNGs are saved as JPG.
Lower = smaller files. 70–85% is usually indistinguishable.

    How it works

    1. Drop your JPG, PNG or WebP image here, or click Choose images. You can add several at once.
    2. The maximum file size is already set to 1 MB. Change it if your form asks for a different limit.
    3. Click Compress images. Each picture is saved at the best quality that fits, and made smaller in pixels only if it has to be.
    4. Download your file. Every result is marked when it is under 1 MB.

    Frequently asked questions

Will a 1 MB photo look different from my original?

Rarely. Phone cameras save far more detail than a screen can show, and the tool keeps the highest quality that fits in 1 MB, so most people cannot tell the two apart.

Is 1 MB here 1,000 KB or 1,024 KB?

The tool aims below 1,000,000 bytes, the stricter of the two, so the file is accepted whichever way a website counts.

Why was my 800 KB photo not changed?

It already fits under 1 MB, so the tool kept your original rather than re-compressing it. Set a lower limit if you want it smaller.

Is my image uploaded when I compress it to 1 MB?

No. The compression runs in your browser, so your photo never leaves your device. That also makes it quick: there is nothing to upload or download from a server.

    What fits in 1 MB

Many websites, forms and help desks cap uploads at 1 MB. At this size a photo keeps around 1,730 × 2,310 pixels, enough for a full-screen view on most laptops, so the result usually looks the same as the original.

As a rough guide, a typical photo fits in 1 MB at about 1,730 × 2,310 pixels while still looking clean. Pictures with plain backgrounds, such as signatures and documents, can keep more pixels; busy, detailed photos need fewer.
