- Drop your PDF here, or click to choose it.
- Fit under a file size is already selected, with the limit set to 500 KB. Change it if your form asks for something different.
- Click Compress PDF. The tool first tries to shrink the file without changing it; if that is not enough, it saves the pages as images at the best quality that fits.
- Download your PDF and open it once to check the text is clear before you upload it.
Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will my scanned PDF get?
Phone scans are often 1–2 MB per page. Fitting our three-page test scan into 500 KB cut it by about 88%, from 3.8 MB to 478 KB, with the text still crisp.
Should I split a long PDF instead?
If it has more than about seven scanned pages, yes. Split it with Split PDF and upload the parts, so each part stays sharp.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
No. Open the PDF in the app you normally use, save a copy without the password, then compress that copy here.
Is my PDF uploaded when I compress it to 500 KB?
No. Your PDF is compressed inside your browser and never sent anywhere, which matters for documents such as certificates and ID proofs.
What fits in a 500 KB PDF
500 KB is generous for documents: in our tests a three-page phone scan kept about 130 DPI, sharp enough to print. It suits email attachments, rental and loan applications, and portals that accept larger uploads.
As a rough guide from our tests with phone photos of documents, about 7 pages fit in 500 KB with normal text still readable, or about 3 pages at a sharp, print-like quality. Clean scanner output fits more, and PDFs made from Word or Google Docs are often small enough already.
